A great ocean wave rolls and curls in the foreground, its movement full of raw power and energy. Behind it, dark, heavy clouds stretch across the horizon, contrasted by the warm and glowing colors of a sunset breaking through the sky. There is something almost mesmerizing about the way these elements come together; the storminess of the clouds, the brilliance of the sky, and the strength of the wave as it rises and folds back into itself.
The ocean can be both things at once: wild and powerful, yet calming and beautiful. It can remind us of how small we are, while somehow making us feel a little more at peace.
That contrast is what I wanted to capture in this piece. The feeling of standing at the edge of something vast and unknown, while choosing to keep moving forward anyway. Of looking beyond the waves and finding something steady in the midst of uncertainty.
This piece came to be upon being requested to create a speedpaint inspired by the song Oceans, this painting is a reminder that even when the waters rise, we don't have to face them alone. Sometimes we simply need to slow down, lift our eyes above the waves, and trust where they are carrying us.
