Second Star to the Right
I have always been rather fond of gazing up into the night sky, wondering at the stars beyond.
There is something about lying beneath a sky full of stars that makes the world feel a little bigger, a little dreamier, and full of possibility. When I was younger, my dad, my brother, and I once stayed up late together to watch a meteor shower. It is one of my fondest memories with my dad; a little adventure we shared right at home, rather than somewhere far away on vacation. Just the three of us, staying up much later than we probably should have, looking up and waiting for the next streak of light to cross the sky.
That sense of childhood wonder is what came to mind while creating Second Star to the Right.
Everyone knows that if you're trying to find Neverland, you have to follow the second star to the right straight on till morning. There is something wonderfully whimsical about thinking that a star could be more than just a distant point of light, that it might actually lead you somewhere if you were willing to follow.
A breathtaking sunset fills the sky in vibrant shades of pink and teal, with billowing clouds catching the last bits of light. As the sky grows darker, countless tiny stars begin to appear overhead. Two stars shine a little brighter than the rest in the upper right corner, quietly waiting to be followed.
The clouds add depth and movement to the scene, but there is something peaceful about the whole sky. It feels like one of those evenings when you might find yourself lying on your back, staring upward, waiting to see what the night might reveal.
Something I truly enjoy about stargazing is that it gives us permission to be a little bit of a dreamer. To imagine that there might be something wonderful just beyond what we can see. To look up and wonder.
And maybe, if we follow the second star to the right, we might just find our way to Neverland.
