A moment in time. It’s there, and then it’s gone in a blink of an eye. Yet, the memory of it can live on. As life moves forward, the simplest things may bring you back to that moment - to a feeling, an emotion, a version of yourself that lives in that memory.
This piece reminds me of watching Anne of Green Gables as a child and discovering Anne Shirley and her deep appreciation for the simple beauties found in everyday life.
It reminds me of Elizabeth Bennet, who loved long walks and whose observant nature would, I imagine, have delighted in taking in every detail of the landscape around her.
Yet, most of all, it reminds me of the simplicity of my early childhood. Wandering outdoors, playing in nature, and feeling no urgency to be anywhere else. There was a sense of peace and stillness in simply observing the world around me and taking it all in.
This isn’t a scene from my childhood, and yet the feelings it evokes are deeply nostalgic. It feels akin to a distant memory, maybe one that never truly existed, but one my soul still resonates with. A dreamed up memory, perhaps. Still, there is a comfort within it, and wonder too. It captures something timeless. The quiet joy of being present, of finding beauty in simplicity, and of feeling at home in a moment that asks nothing of you except to notice.
Life is full of beautiful moments. We need only slow down and notice them.
